Summer Hikes

So far, my summer hiking has been pretty excellent. Thanks to the expertise of Mark Peacock, I have gotten to explore several new waterfalls! Margarette Falls and Rocky Fork, pictured here, are some of my new favorites. As always, Blue stands in when needed.

Norma Is 90

"It's not everyday that you turn 90."

This was the driving force that incited a celebration of such magnitude. Insomuch as everyone loves Grandma, the Nelsons, never ones to back away from a celebration, jumped at the opportunity to do it big, taking Indianapolis by storm.

This is how you do a birthday.

Spring: Roan Mountain

There aren't many bad things about Roan Mountain.

Any excuse to spend a day up there is good enough for me. But with great friends, pine scent, rhododendrons, and the moon promising to put on a show, I couldn't ask for a better reason to go.

Fun fact: the "super moon" is quite a challenge to successfully photograph without some kind of background structure emphasizing its unusual size. As such, all attempts for the girls to moonwalk failed. I settled for a super (imposed) moon from another photo that night. Equally as unsuccessful and cheesy.

Enjoy!
